Merino Wool Sweaters & More: SmartWool Staff Favorites

Staff favorite Merino sweaters, socks and more.

Polar vortex or not, it’s been pretty cold out lately. A quick look around the SmartWool HQ today showed a solid representation of SmartWool sweaters from past, present and future seasons. That got us thinking about our favorite SmartWool pieces and what keeps us warm during these frigid days. Warm Merino sweaters, baselayers and socks were just the beginning. See what some SmartWool staffers had to say about what layers they pull out of their drawers first.

Q: What’s your favorite cold weather SmartWool piece?
A: Mid250 Zip T

Q: How long have you had it?
A: I add a new piece every year. I love new color and patterns and always want the latest and greatest. Of course black is a good old staple and has lived in my closets for years.

Q: Why is it so amazing?
A: I love how versatile this is. I can wear it for any activity during any time of the year. It comes with me camping in the summer for pj’s on cool nights, while in the winter it’s one of my first layers in cold weather activities. The fit and fabric make it a great piece to wear alone or layered every day because of the color and patterns.

Q: Favorite cold weather SmartWool piece? A: Men’s NTS Light 195 Wind Boxer Brief

Q: How long have you had it?
A: Two Years

Q: Why is it so amazing?
A: Well there’s the obvious answer to this, but ultimately it’s amazing because of how universal it is. I use this piece cycling, nordic skiing and running in cold weather and they are a perfect weight for your first layer. They fit under any garment, even cycling shorts/bibs with a chamois. These are a crucial component in allowing me to be comfortable during activity and the combination of Merino and wind protection help keep me out there longer.
